Police in Kisoro have apprehended a woman accused of severely beating her stepson, leaving the four-year-old boy with grievous injuries.
The victim, a pupil at Bright Valley Junior Pre and Primary School in Kisoro District, is currently undergoing treatment for his wounds after the brutal assault.
The identity of the victim has been withheld for privacy reasons. The alleged perpetrator, Charity Ninshaba, a resident of Central Division in Kisoro Municipality, reportedly assaulted the child.
Moira Kampire, the Kisoro District Probation Officer, confirmed that the incident occurred on Tuesday and has been officially reported to the Kisoro Central Police Station. Expressing concern for the child’s well-being, Kampire noted that he is currently unable to stand unaided. She called on parents to be vigilant when entrusting their children to relatives and urged guardians to show compassion rather than cruelty.
Pasita Ngabirano, the head teacher of Bright Valley Junior Pre and Primary School, revealed that they became aware of the abuse on Tuesday when the victim displayed unusual behavior. Subsequent investigation uncovered a pattern of repeated abuse inflicted by Ninshaba, the stepmother.
At the time of reporting, the suspect was in custody at Kisoro Central Police Station.
