The Police in Mbarara City are currently probing a heartbreaking case of suicide that unfolded at Skylight Hotel on the fateful night of Tuesday, February 6th, 2024, at approximately 7:00 PM. The incident saw a waiter from the same hotel tragically plunge from the third floor, resulting in immediate fatality.
SP Samson Kasasira, the spokesperson for the Rwizi region Police, has identified the deceased as Nuwahereza Cosmas, aged approximately 25 years old.
According to accounts provided by Muyambi Aggrey, the manager of Skylight Hotel Mbarara, Nuwahereza had requested time off to attend to personal matters on Monday, February 5th, 2024. Permission was granted on Tuesday, given that the deceased had been scheduled for a night shift. Nuwahereza traveled to Nyarugando cell, Nyakishenyi sub-county, Rubabo constituency in Rukungiri, his hometown, and subsequently returned to work on the same day around 6:00 PM.
Upon his return, Nuwahereza, donning his work attire, approached the counter and requested a bottle of pure heaven wine, citing clients to serve. However, in a tragic turn of events, Kasasira revealed to the press that after obtaining the bottle, Nuwahereza ascended to the third floor, leapt off, and tragically met his demise upon impact.
His body was swiftly conveyed to the mortuary at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for postmortem examination, while CCTV camera footage capturing the incident awaits retrieval and analysis.
Kasasira further disclosed that investigations into the incident remain ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding Nuwahereza’s devastating decision.
