The Uganda Police Force is mourning the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ogola, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at Nakasero Hospital.
Okoth Ogola served as IGP from 1981 to 1985, overseeing a critical period in the force’s history.
In a statement released on X, the police confirmed his passing and extended condolences to his family. Current IGP Abas Byakagaba assured that the late Ogola would be honored in a manner befitting his legacy.
“The Uganda Police Force is mourning the death of former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Okoth Ogola… The IGP Abas Byakagaba has extended condolences to the family and ensured that the late IGP is honored in a manner fitting his legacy,” the statement read.
The police pledged to provide further updates on funeral arrangements.
“Okoth Ogola’s leadership and contributions to the Uganda Police Force will be remembered and cherished. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the statement concluded.
