The Uganda Police Force (UPS) spokesperson, ACP Kituuma Rusoke, has said that the accusation of anal rape levied against the institution is unfounded and appears to be part of an ongoing propaganda campaign against the institution.
This stemmed from the social media posts claiming that some of the released protesters were subjected to anal rape (sodomization) by police officers while in custody.
This development was confirmed on July 25, 2024, on the official X handle of UPS.
“Your accusations against the Uganda Police Force (UPF) are unfounded and appear to be part of an ongoing propaganda campaign against the institution. The police are very conscious of the rights of suspects and take their responsibilities seriously.,” Rusoke said.
He implored the populace to stop disseminating inaccurate information and false narratives, which are damaging the police force’s reputation.
“Spreading malicious lies and baseless allegations is highly unprofessional and unethical,” Rusoke added.
Rusoke also urged the populace to cooperate with the UPF positively to preserve the rule of law and safeguard everyone’s rights.
Additionally, he stated that the police are committed to maintaining high standards of integrity and professionalism in the service of the Ugandan people.
