Before this workshop, all the staff at Compassion Uganda went through three days of training at the Rivonia Suites Hotel in Mbuya. The goal was to make sure everyone knew how to handle disasters better.
Rose Nakabugo, from the Office of the Prime Minister, talked to the Nile Post about the increasing number of disasters happening. She said that droughts used to happen every five years, but now they happen every year. Flooding is also getting worse.
Nakabugo said it’s everyone’s job to deal with these problems. She said we need to prepare for disasters and work together to help each other. We need to think about the future and what kind of Uganda we want to leave for the next generation.
Nakabugo said it’s important for the Office of the Prime Minister and Compassion International to work together on disaster preparedness.
She also said it’s crucial to work with other groups to handle disasters quickly and well.
Nakabugo asked Ugandans to focus on taking care of the environment to prevent disasters from happening.
Emmanuel Ahimbisibwe, from Compassion International, said his organization will give money and equipment to help with disasters. He said it’s important for everyone to know how to deal with disasters and prevent them.
Ahimbisibwe said it’s crucial for Compassion International to work with the government because disasters are a big threat.
As Compassion International’s leader in Uganda, Ahimbisibwe said they are focusing on building partnerships with different groups. He said working together is essential to fight poverty and deal with disasters.
He also mentioned working with the Office of the Prime Minister to help with disasters.
