Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) Uganda proudly hosted the inaugural Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) national competition on January 4, 2025, at Fairway Hotel in Kampala. The GSEA, the premier global competition for student entrepreneurs, celebrates young innovators who own and operate businesses while pursuing academic studies.
This year’s competition, organized by the EO Uganda Chapter, marked a significant milestone, bringing together aspiring student entrepreneurs to compete for the chance to represent Uganda at the GSEA Global Finals.
Empowering the Next Generation of Change Makers
The GSEA is driven by the mission to empower student entrepreneurs to become the world’s most influential change-makers. The competition evaluates participants on both their entrepreneurial journey and their business acumen, with a focus on innovation, trust, respect, and a commitment to building a better tomorrow.
Meet the Winners
After an inspiring showcase of talent, three exceptional entrepreneurs emerged victorious:
- Ochom Joel Felix – Winner
- Medical student at Makerere University and founder of PhytoGold (U) Limited, a pharmaceutical company committed to reducing dependency on imported Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).
- Presented Maisha, a patented herbal medicine designed to treat and prevent malaria, including drug-resistant strains.
- Joel will represent Uganda in the Global Quarterfinals in Pakistan this February, with his trip sponsored by EO Uganda and Voyager Global Solutions Limited.
- Nantaba Rebecca – 1st Runner-Up

- Palliative care student at Makerere University and founder of Alpha Mai Africa, a social enterprise that recycles plastic waste into reusable sanitary pads to fight period poverty and conserve the environment.
- Awarded USD 500 for her impactful innovation.
- Kiggundu Ernest – 2nd Runner-Up

- Medical Imaging student at Ernest Cook Ultrasound Research and Educational Institute and founder of Stawisha Golf Ltd, a company dedicated to developing golf among Uganda’s youth.
- Awarded a trip to Semliki Safari Lodge, generously sponsored by Wildplaces Africa, in recognition of his innovative efforts.
A Platform for Growth
The competition saw 11 student entrepreneurs from universities in Kampala qualify, with 8 finalists participating. In preparation for the event, participants received mentorship and coaching from EO members.
Looking Ahead
The GSEA not only offers recognition but also provides invaluable mentorship, connections, and opportunities for growth. Winners from national competitions proceed to the Global Quarterfinals, aiming to reach the Global Finals and compete against peers from around the world.
