Late on Wednesday night, tragedy struck along the Masaka-Kampala highway as a collision between two vehicles resulted in the loss of three lives, with one individual critically injured.
The incident, recorded by territorial traffic police in Mpigi, occurred on April 17, 2024, around 11:40 p.m. near Kamengo at Kasuule Ayanguwa swamp along the highway.
According to SP Kananura Michael, the Public Relations Officer at the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the collision involved two vehicles: M/V UAL 605 U Mitsubishi Fuso and UBH 247L Subaru Forester.
The Mitsubishi Fuso, traveling from Kampala to Masaka, collided with the Subaru Forester heading from Masaka to Kampala, leading to the immediate loss of three lives from the Subaru and leaving one individual injured.
“The injured occupant was rushed to Double Cure in Mpigi for medical treatment, while the deceased were taken to Gombe Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examination,” SP Kananura stated.
As of the report’s release, the identities of the accident victims had not been disclosed.
This tragic incident follows closely on the heels of another fatal accident along Entebbe Road, involving a concrete cement truck and a Mitsubishi, which claimed the life of Okoit Raphael, a lawyer and lecturer at UCU.
