Deputy Director of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), Sylvia Damalie Owori, has declared her candidacy for the Tororo Woman Member of Parliament seat in the upcoming elections, setting the stage for a fierce political showdown against the incumbent, Hon. Sarah Opendi. Owori alleges that Opendi has been orchestrating a smear campaign against her, disseminating misinformation to tarnish her reputation.
In a 2023 exposé by The INDEPENDENT, Owori found herself embroiled in contentious land disputes with over 15 families in Tororo municipality. Accusations surfaced, claiming Owori utilized her security connections to force families out of their homes. The matter even made its way to the Uganda Parliament, where Hon. Sarah Opendi, Tororo Woman MP, raised concerns about Owori’s alleged tactics.
Expressing her frustration via social media platform X, Owori vehemently denied the accusations, accusing Opendi of malicious intent and threatening behavior. She accused Opendi of employing baseless accusations and name-calling in response to Owori’s decision to contest the Woman MP seat in Tororo.
“It’s very disappointing to see MP Sarah Opendi continuously spreading hate and misinformation against me on the floor of parliament instead of focusing on issues that matter to all Ugandans right now,” Owori lamented in a series of tweets. She further criticized Opendi’s behavior as unprofessional and unworthy of a parliamentarian.

Despite attempts to resolve the land disputes through legal channels, Owori alleges that Opendi persists in biased behavior, even questioning Owori’s Ugandan nationality and launching personal attacks whenever possible.
“This has no place in our democratic process and undermines the integrity of our institutions like the judiciary,” Owori emphasized, calling upon Opendi to prioritize her duties as an elected representative and refrain from further divisive actions.
Asserting her commitment to serving the constituents of Tororo, Owori announced her candidacy for the Woman MP seat, highlighting her determination to bring positive change to the region. As a renowned fashion designer, Owori’s entry into politics adds a new dimension to the electoral landscape, promising a spirited contest against the incumbent.
Urging an end to the petty politics and focusing on the welfare of Ugandans, Owori concluded, “Enough is enough. Uganda deserves better.”
Sylvia Owori via X now sets her sights on the Tororo Woman Member of Parliament seat, ready to challenge Hon. Sarah Opendi in the upcoming elections.
