Kampala, Uganda: A valiant effort by police officers and the quick reporting of Hon. Mubarak Munyagwa foiled an attempted robbery at his residence in the early hours of January 3rd, 2024.
Around 3:00 am, Nsangi Territorial Police received reports of a break-in at the Kyengera Town Council home. Led by the Division Police Commander, a swift response team arrived on the scene and successfully prevented the attackers from entering.
Hon. Munyagwa’s prompt action in alerting authorities is credited with playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of himself, his family, and their property. The rapid deployment of the police patrol team further bolstered the defense against the assailants.
While the brave security guard, Benjamin Mpaka, sustained a head injury from a sharp object during the confrontation, he was promptly taken to Mulago Hospital for medical attention. Fortunately, no one else inside the residence suffered any harm.
Despite heavy rain hampering their efforts, the police K9 unit assisted in securing the scene. In the ensuing pursuit, one suspect attempting to flee in a Datsun pick-up (registration number UAK 182A) was apprehended. He is currently in custody and aiding police investigations.
Addressing misinformation circulating on social media, the Kampala Metropolitan Police clarified that no firearms were used during the incident. The assailants were only armed with sharp objects.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, commended Hon. Munyagwa for his prompt reporting, which enabled the police to respond effectively and prevent further harm. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities immediately.
