The Special Forces Command (SFC) has refuted claims circulating on social media alleging that one of their soldiers shot and killed a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Kampala.
A post on X by an NUP supporter on Saturday evening claimed that their colleague was fatally shot at Bwaise roundabout by an SFC soldier travelling in a police pickup.
In response, Maj Jimmy Omara, the SFC public information officer, issued a brief statement dismissing the tweet by one Motive Kasagga as fake and urged the public to disregard it.
“No such incident was recorded wherever our troops operated. We warn the propagators of this falsehood to desist immediately, or face the full force of the law for their continuous false allegations against the institution of SFC,” Maj Omara asserted.
He attributed the dissemination of these claims to “NUP radicals” but affirmed that the SFC remains undeterred from its duties despite such distractions.
The allegations surfaced shortly after NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, returned to the city following a memorial service for Ritah Nabukenya, an NUP supporter who died in a road accident in 2020 while travelling to an NUP event.
The opposition party has accused a police vehicle with registration number UP 4841 of causing Nabukenya’s death, which the police have denied.
