Ugandan rapper Keko has revealed that her friendship with Sheebah Karungi was damaged when she signed with Jeff Kiwa with whom she had had issues.
During a YouTube show, Keko revealed that she met Sheebah after the video shoot of her mega song ‘How We Do It’. Keko remembers her manager at the time, Shadrack mentioning how there was a girl who wanted to meet her.
Don MC then made plans and took Keko to Sheebah. “He introduced me to her, she was cool, we were really good and we vibed off immediately,” Keko remembers.
They became very close and Keko would always attend every event where Sheebah performed but their friendship was dealt a huge blow when Sheebah signed to Team No Sleep.
Keko notes that she had had a bad encounter with the TNS boss Jeff Kiwa while he still worked with Mowzey Radio (RIP) and Weasel during an international awards show.
Despite telling Sheebah about her differences with Jeff Kiwa, Sheebah still went on to sign with the TNS crew and Keko felt betrayed, leading to a collapse in their relationship.
Upon her return to Uganda after several years in Canada, Keko remembers giving a call to Sheebah, seeking a mend to their friendship and to work together but it did not go as planned as Sheebah was still stuck to the past.
Keko now believes they might never get back as close friends and only have to co-exist as artists working in the same industry.
When I met her, she was a really good performer, she was on stage. She was performing every week and we would go there with my friends whenever to watch her perform. She had a good head on her shoulders and believed in what she was doing, and it’s evident now that she has always had that work ethic from when I met her.
Unfortunately, due to time and all these other factors that come in, we kind of went in different directions. She signed with somebody who was not a fan of mine. I told her about a past incident that had happened between me and a certain manager and she went on and signed with him still.
I felt a little betrayed!
She knew he would put in a little more effort in her because of our situation and it happened for her but as a friend, I wouldn’t do that to her. When I came back, I gave her a call wanting to work it out but then again I saw her in an interview talking crazy.
I think I moved on from that situation. We could be acquaintances because we are in the same industry. We have no choice but to live with each other, I suppose. We could never run into each other. I wish her the best, she had a baby and that’s a new chapter for her. I don’t want drama in my life.
