Media personality Janie Namukasa has publicly apologized to Ugandan singer Jose Chameleone after making false allegations about his situation in the United States.
The apology came after Chameleone’s legal team threatened legal action in response to her defamatory claims.
On February 18, 2025, Namukasa falsely claimed that Chameleone was in jail for assaulting his caretaker, Juliet Zawedde, instead of being in the hospital as previously reported.
Chameleone quickly denied the allegations, addressing the rumors in a video shared with his fans from his hospital bed.
He warned against spreading false information and emphasized the potential consequences of such actions.
Despite Chameleone’s clarification, Namukasa initially stood by her statements.
To protect his reputation, Chameleone’s legal team issued a cease-and-desist letter to Namukasa, demanding an apology, a retraction of the defamatory statements, and compensation of 100 million.
In response to legal pressure, Namukasa recorded a public apology video.
She explained that the information she had shared originally came from sources in the United States, whose intent, she later discovered, was to damage Chameleone’s reputation.
Acknowledging that her statements about the singer were entirely false, Namukasa expressed sincere regret for the emotional distress her words caused him and his family.
She fully retracted her previous claims and wished him a swift recovery.
