The Police in Kanungu District have arrested a mechanic identified as Byomuhangi Elias Katama over the suspected murder of a 47 year man Bangezaki Swaleh a resident of Kyeijanga village in Kirima Sub County.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman ASP Elly Maate told journalists on Friday morning that that case was reported by Saniya Korugyendo, a resident of Rutugunda also in the same village.
It is alleged that the deceased was on 28th July 2024, assaulted by Byomuhangi who accused him of stealing his money amounting to Ugx 30,000 but he later recovered the same money from his wife.
The two, Byomuhangi and Bagenzaki later reconciled, and the latter went for treatment at Kyeijanga Trading Center, but on Tuesday, his condition deteriorated leading to his death on Thursday, August 1st 2024.
This prompted Korugyendo to report to Police and a team of officers visited the scene, statements from relevant witnesses were recorded and the body was taken to Kanungu Health Center IV mortuary where a postmortem examination was conducted and the suspect was arrested to help in investigation.
Maate said that the case was registered at Kirima Police Station under reference number SD 05/01/08/2024 and the body was handed over to the relatives for burial.
