Uganda Police has extended gratitude towards the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Katonga faction for their collaborative efforts in organizing peaceful consultative meetings across various regions. Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson, commended the FDC Katonga faction for their cooperation with law enforcement during their consultative and mobilization tours led by retired Colonel Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Enanga expressed appreciation, stating, “We want to also thank them because they have been working with the police, and so far, their consultative meetings have been generally peaceful.”
The FDC Katonga faction’s consultative and mobilization tours have covered significant regions, including Jinja, Mbarara, and Kasese, with ongoing meetings underway. The police confirmed that processions to town hall meetings organized by the FDC were regulated to ensure the safety of all participants and the general public.
Highlighting the importance of collaboration between political groups and law enforcement, Enanga emphasized the need for adherence to guidelines and regulations. “We want to assure them that we will continue working with them, provided they are law-abiding individuals,” Enanga added.
The police spokesperson reiterated the mandate under the Police Act, emphasizing the duty of the police to regulate public meetings in a manner that ensures peace, public order, and minimal disruptions to traffic and business activities.
“We urge other parties, such as the NUP, to emulate such political groups and leaders by holding regulated political meetings in a safe and secure manner,” Enanga urged.
Furthermore, Enanga extended appreciation to other political parties, including the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT), Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Justice Forum (JEEMA), and Democratic Party (DP), for their commitment to lawful conduct during political activities.
