“Upon immediate response, we discovered the scene had been tampered with,” Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, revealed on social media.
Bugingo’s personal assistant, Richard Muhumuza, tragically succumbed to his injuries after the attack. His body has been transferred to Mulago Hospital’s City Mortuary for a post-mortem.
The incident unfolded at 9:00 pm in Namungoona, Zone 2, Kasubi, Rubaga South Division. Bugingo, though injured, managed to escape the scene and drive himself to Mulago Hospital in his car, aptly registered “PRAIZ GOD.”
While Bugingo is recovering under medical care, police are actively pursuing the assailants. “CCTV footage is being meticulously reviewed to identify them,” Owoyesigyire stated.
Social media offers glimpses into the aftermath. Photos show Bugingo, calm but with a bandaged right hand, resting in a hospital bed. In a video, musician Charles Senkubuge, employed by Bugingo’s Salt Media, shared the pastor’s gratitude for his survival.
“Bugingo said he’s alive by God’s grace,” Senkubuge relayed. “The attacker came with murderous intent, but we’re deeply saddened by Richard’s death. He’s gone to be with the Lord.”
The investigation into this attempt on Bugingo’s life remains ongoing, with the tampered scene posing an additional challenge. Police urge the public to cooperate and share any information that could aid in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.
