Nigerian songstress Simi, renowned for her soulful melodies, has cast a spotlight on several Ugandan artists whom she believes possess the potential to captivate the Nigerian music scene.
Simi, born Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, singled out Cindy, Eddy Kenzo, and Joshua Baraka as some of the most promising talents emerging from Uganda. While acknowledging that Ugandan artists are not widely recognized in Nigeria, Simi emphasized the exceptional talent of a select few.
“Joshua Baraka is one such musician who stands out,” she affirmed, expressing her recent discovery of his music. “It would be fantastic to see more African countries making waves in the Nigerian market, similar to how our music resonates across borders.”
Among the rising stars, Simi particularly highlighted her interaction with Eddy Kenzo in the past. “I’ve had conversations with Kenzo before,” she disclosed.
When questioned about other Ugandan artists like Fik Famaica, Simi admitted unfamiliarity, stating, “I haven’t come across that one yet, but who knows? Perhaps in the future.”
Despite her admission of not being an avid music listener outside of Nigeria, Simi outlined her methods for discovering new talent, citing radio plays and recommendations from friends and fans, including direct messages on social media.
Simi shared her insights during a press conference held on Saturday before headlining the “Best of Kampala” concert at Garden City Upper Terrace on Sunday night, marking her inaugural visit to Uganda.
