The cabinet was sworn in on Friday, February 23, 2024, during the ongoing two-day workshop on alternative budget priorities at Imperial Hotel.
The leader of the opposition (LOP) Joel Ssenyonyi urged the shadow ministers to be the voices of the people because they are representatives of the people, adding that the public is counting on them.
Ssenyonyi also vowed to hold the government accountable at any cost. He said the Shadow Cabinet will be visiting Lubowa Hospital to check its progress and demand for accountability, despite allegations that it is heavily guarded.
The new shadow cabinet was announced by the leading opposition party National Unity Platform (NUP) following the end of the term of the first cabinet, that was under the stewardship of Mathias Mpuuga.
