In a tragic turn of events, an enraged mob in Mukono took matters into their own hands and lynched two suspected boda boda robbers, whose identities remained unknown at the time of reporting. The perpetrators met a grim fate as their bodies were burnt beyond recognition.
The incident unfolded after the discovery of the bodies of Richard Mawanda, aged 56, and Sande Semanda, aged 35, both boda boda operators from Samuka village in Katoogo Parish, Mukono. The victims were found slain, their motorcycles missing, near a sand mining pond.
Fuelled by anger and a thirst for justice, residents launched a manhunt for the alleged assailants, apprehending two youths believed to be involved in the killings. However, instead of handing them over to authorities, the mob administered its own brand of justice, lynching the suspects and reducing their bodies to charred remains.
Local residents attributed the rise in crime to poorly maintained and insecure roads, exacerbated by dense vegetation. They lamented the absence of a police presence in the area, which they believe emboldens criminal activities.
Expressing dismay over the tragic loss of life, Nama Sub-county chairman John Bosco Isabirye urged caution among boda boda riders, advising against transporting strangers during nighttime hours.
Confirming the harrowing sequence of events, Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango revealed that the bodies were transported to Mulago Hospital for examination.
The spate of violence in the region has left five individuals dead within a week, with the recent gruesome murder of one-year-old Shanal Sserunkuma further highlighting the alarming trend of brutality and lawlessness.
