Earlier today, the State Minister for International Affairs, Henry Okello Oryem got copies of letters of credence from Takuya Ssasayama who is the new ambassador of Japan to Uganda.
We should know that Sasayama has been working with Japanese Foreign Services for a long period of years since 1988. And now he is in Uganda as the new Ambassador, taking the place of Ambassador Fukuzawa Hidemoto. Before this, he was in charge of the Japanese office in Toronto.
He also had work tours in different cities including Washington, DC, Seoul, Mexico City, Kuala Lumpur, Ottawa and Egypt among others.
At the function, the new ambassador received good hospitality from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan who is best remembered for the beautiful gesture he got during his stay in Uganda in 2023.
Minister Okello was happy to welcome the new person from Japan, talking about the long friendship between Uganda and Japan. He mentioned how Japan helps Uganda with technical support through programs like JICA and TICAD.
Okello said Uganda likes how Japan helps Africa develop. He especially likes how Japan treats African countries as equals when offering help.
“We’re happy that Japan listens to us and respects our relationship. Mutual respect is key to good relationships,” he said.
Ambassador Sasayama said he’s excited to work in Uganda and visit different places, especially the projects Japan started in 1992 to help communities. These projects are important to Japan, and they’ve been successful. The embassy plans to start more of these projects.
Before coming to Uganda, Ambassador Sasayama worked in different positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, including Director of the APEC Division of the Economic Affairs Bureau and Director in the First South East Asian Affairs Department.
