Kasese Chief Magistrate’s court has remanded a renowned traditional herbalist, Hajji Abdul Kasita to Mubuku government prison for alleged murder.
Kasita was remanded by Betty Ajok who didn’t read the charges against him because of the absence of a Luganda language translator.
It alleged that on August 8, 2024, while at Kogere in Rukooki Ward of Nyamwamba Division in Kasese Municipality with malice aforethought, Kasita caused the death of Catherine Kabugho, aged 10 and Caroline Mbambu, aged 8.
The two were Kasita’s stepdaughters. It was reported that Kasita offered the two children a chapatti which they ate and developed complications. They were rushed to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment from where they died.
A postmortem report indicated that the children died as a result of eating chapattis laced with poison. The suspect was remanded until September 4 as they look for an interpreter for mention of his case.
