Cattle traders in Karamoja have been informed to get trading licenses within one month or else they will be arrested.
This comes after the announcement released by joint security forces in Karamoja after the meeting held on Monday at the Mount Moroto Region Police head offices.
This is part of the work to make sure that livestock theft is reduced and also make sure the cattle trade business in Karamoja is well regulated.
Elias Kasirabo, the Police Anti Stock Theft Unit commander said “Cattle traders need to have livestock trading licenses within one month, effective from April 29, to operate smoothly and avoid interference from security forces.”
According to Brig Felix Busizoori, the deputy commander of the UPDF 3rd division said that there is a need for traders to make their business legit traders from “cattle hawkers” who are making cattle raids.
“Measures have been put in place to regulate the cattle trade, including the requirement for traceability documents and the use of gazetted routes for transportation,” Brig Busizoori added.
