Speaker Among’s recent comments in Bukedea and Buyende have caused anger among voters in Kamuli Municipality.
During a rally in Bukedea last week, Among criticized some individuals, referring to them as “old women,” who she claimed were behind a smear campaign against her and Parliament.
She repeated these sentiments at a public event in Buyende District last Saturday. A video circulated on social media, specifically TikTok, captured Among suggesting that Kamuli is more developed than Buyende but insinuating that an “old woman from Kamuli” is opposing her.
Although Among didn’t name anyone, voters in Kamuli inferred that her remarks were directed towards their Woman MP, Kadaga.
Both Opposition National Unity Platform leaders and ruling NRM supporters in Kamuli have united in condemning Among’s statements, setting aside their political differences.
Led by NUP Kamuli Municipality MP candidate, Moses Bigirwa, voters are demanding a public apology from the Speaker. They’ve stated that if she fails to do so, they will explore other avenues for recourse.
“We can stop her from passing through Kamuli to go to Buyende because Kadaga lobbied for the roads she uses,” the upset locals said.
They added that Kadaga has been important for Kamuli and Busoga’s development, so they won’t allow anyone to criticize her.
“It’s not easy to reach the top in politics. It took us years to make Kadaga famous. We must protect her,” they said.
“Kadaga helped develop Kamuli with tarred roads, street lights, scholarships, and jobs for our children. We deserve respect.”
The upset locals want Busoga Kingdom to get involved because Kadaga helped fix the kingdom when it was in trouble.
“Busoga Kingdom should declare Among unwelcome for attacking Kadaga,” they said.
They want Among to apologize or find another way to get to her home in Buyende.
