Due to the increased insecurity brought by the suspected cattle raiders in Karamoja, the government has now set ugx 500 million to Agago district local government to make security roads.
This happened when the LC5 chairperson Leonard Opiyo Ojok said that about 50 to 60 livestock are stolen every day in Agago and sometimes the owners are blatantly beaten.
“The 67-kilometer road stretch from Adilang through Lira Kato, Lapono, Paimol, Omiya-Pacwa to Orom in Kitgum district will significantly reduce the likelihood of Karamojongs escaping with their plunder once the road is completed,” states Ojok.
This development follows a prolonged period of waiting and appeals by the local residents to their area’s Member of Parliament, Beatrice Akello Akori, who has been advocating for the project.
Nok Nabinson Kidega, the Agago Resident District Commissioner, has emphasized the importance of unity as the government bolsters security in these communities.
“The President’s vision for our nation entails economic growth at the grassroots level; therefore, let us work towards development,” Kidega remarked.
Furthermore, residents of Agago have urged for the establishment of additional UPDF detachments in the district to enhance security measures and facilitate rapid responses to emergencies.
This plea comes in light of multiple incidents of incursions by suspected Karamojong raiders into Agago, who abscond with stolen property, including cattle belonging to local residents.
