President Yoweri Museveni has issued a stern condemnation of the recent heinous attack by armed terrorists that claimed the lives of 10 individuals near the vast Kibaale forest in Uganda. In a series of tweets, President Museveni expressed his condolences to the families affected by the tragic incident and vowed swift retribution against the perpetrators.
The attack, which occurred on Monday night, targeted crop night watchmen and villagers gathered at a small bar near the Kibaale forest. According to President Museveni, the victims included individuals guarding against monkey raids on crops as well as locals enjoying a social gathering.
Notably, one courageous young girl managed to escape from the assailants, alerting authorities about the horrifying attack. President Museveni commended her bravery and pledged to personally meet and thank her for her courageous actions.
The President detailed that the terrorists responsible for the recent attack were remnants of a group known as the Njovu-Kamusu, a faction that had entered Uganda from Congo. This group had previously committed several atrocities, including the killing of school children, tourists, and other violent acts.
Museveni revealed that efforts by Ugandan forces, specifically the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and Special Forces Commandos (SFC), had resulted in the neutralization of several members of the terrorist group. However, the recent attack prompted the reactivation of Local Defense Units (LDUs) in areas surrounding national parks and forests, aiming to fortify civilian areas against potential attacks.
The President emphasized that the country would not tolerate such acts of terrorism, vowing to pursue the perpetrators relentlessly. He ordered airstrikes on the leaders of the terrorist group in Congo as a retaliatory measure.
Additionally, President Museveni directed financial support from the State House Comptroller to aid the families of the victims and the courageous girl who escaped the attack. He also urged the terrorists to surrender, warning that those who do not abandon terrorism will face severe consequences.
The President’s resolute stance against terrorism and swift actions to fortify vulnerable areas reflect Uganda’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. The government’s proactive measures underscore a determination to thwart further threats posed by these infiltrators.
