After match day 18 in the English premier league, the league table remain tight as the top six clubs struggle to collect points from the opponents. This weekend soffer it is observed that most big clubs dropped points than other weekends. We shall therefore look at some few matches that really left people in the shock through this match day .
The first match was between Aston villa and Sheffield United. At first may be we thought it could be an easy game for the villas because Sheffield United is one of the most underrated teams in English premier league. By half time the game was still balanced but Sheffield united had to score a late goal which was later equalized by Aston villa. This made Aston villa lose 2 points and they had to remain in the 3rd position with 39 points. Tallying with liverpool but just a difference of goals. Aston villa is now one point from the first position.
Manchester United vs westham was also another match to watch. It was of no surprise Manchester United lost the game by 2 goals to nil. Goals from kudus and Bowen that came in the second half. This changed alot on the league table because westham had to go to 30 points making it to bounce in 6th position while Manchester United had to drop to 8th position with 28 points. Most people are now questioning whether Eric tenhag is the right manager at the moment. It is said that all Manchester United fans are in poor moods of Christmas due to their poor club performance. Though tenhag insists that injuries are the major cause of the poor performance.
Newcastle vs Luton town. This was also one of the underrated matches as the magpies were seen as the favorites to win the match. The last whistle was blown when luton town was leading the game by one nil. In the recent matches Newcastle United form has really dropped as never before. They had just lost a quarter final to Chelsea, they have just been knocked out of the UEFA champions league. So u really realise that Newcastle of recent is not at its peak. On the table Newcastle had to drop to 7th position with 29 points just one point behind westham and one point above Manchester United. While luton town had to bounce to 18th position with 12 points just two points to escape the relegation zone.
Fulham vs Burnley. Fulham lost the game easly to Burnley which wasn’t also expected that way because after fulham proceeding to the semifinals of carabao cup we thought it had that boost to our suprise it easly lost to struggling burneley by (2:0). This made Fulham to drop to 12th position with 21 points while burneley remain in 19th position with 11points.
Tottenham had to win everton easily by (2:1) goals from son and Richarison gave spurs the victory while the Everton goal came from andre Gomez. This there fore made spurs to tighten their position on the premier table as they are now in 4th position with 36 points after 18 matches played. Everton had to drop to 18th position with 16 points. Reminder FA deducted 10 point from Everton in the early days of the season.
The latest fixture was between the two top clubs in England soffer. It was Liverpool hosting arsenal the gunners at anifield stadium. We saw an early goal from arsenal that came from Gabriel Magalhaes in the fourth minute. Salah later equalized just after 24 minutes from arsenal’s goal. This made the first half to end in a draw and the second half had to end in a goalless draw making the match to end (1:1) at full time. This has made liverpool fail to win arsenal in a domestic cup for the second time at anifield. Liverpool missed some few dangerous attacks that maybe would have given them a lead. The match was equally important to both clubs as they are just separated by one point on the table. Arsenal remains at the top of the table with 40 points while liverpool remains 2nd with 39 points. This means if liverpool had won it would automatically top the table.
As we head to Christmas arsenal are the table leaders after match day 18. The question remains who will stop arsenal???
