Last weekend, December 14, at Lugogo Cricket Oval Kampala, Jamaican start – Louis Anthony Grandison, alias Dexta Daps, brought the heat to the stage, while headlining the Noise Nation concert, organised by Talent Africa Group, House of DJs, and Swangz Avenue.
Like many other Jamaican artists who have been to Uganda before, Daps raised the euphoria among Kampala avid concert revellers, with high anticipations on his stage presence, sensual dance moves, and songs that send chills down the spines of his fans, especially the ladies.
The Noise Nation show kicked off as early as 2:00pm, with DJ mixes from DJ Cross, Venom, Vee, and one of the crowd’s highlights – DJ Roja together with MC Viana Indi, who had the revellers dancing themselves sweaty.
Naselow Da Don, a celebrated Dancehall/reggea DJ, crowned the DJ set with quite the vibrancy it needed. Hyping himself up, and doing it quite well, Naselow left the crowd more than ready for more action.
More action continued through at 8:00pm, with a Swangz Avenue All-star set featuring Azawi, Elijah Kitaka, Winnie Nwagi and Zafaran. The talented group started off their performance with God Ye Buddy, one of the songs off the Swangz All-star album. Performing with the Double Black band, the output was not too bad.
Kitaka continued through with a solo performance, delivering Dawa, Tippie Toe and Nothing. He would later be joined by Nwagi, Azawi and Zagazillions to perform Mary Jane . The sound production, however, was quite below the fans’ expectations, especially since it was very hard to clearly hear what the performers were singing.
Dexta Daps, the man of the hour, came on stage at 11:00pm, donning a black, glittery suit, looking like the star he is. Received with high energy and deafening screams from the crowd, Daps went directly with his performance.
Performing his favourite song – Shadda Madda Pot, the crowd could not help but yearn and beg for their favourite tracks – Wifi and No Underwear
Later, Dexta’s set would morph into what the crowd expected of him, besides the music, sensual acts and dirty dancing. Yeah, this is what some, especially the ladies, had paid for.
With help from local dancer – Ritah Dancehall, the fans got exactly what wanted. The dancer came on stage wearing a Gomesi, which Dexta would slowly and seductively take off before revealing what Ritah was wearing inside.
The two would go on to almost turn the stage into a public sex scene with their dances and moves. Ti take things a notch higher, an actual bed was brought on stage and the rest that ensued had nothing to do with music.
At the end, however, it was safe to say that the crowd got what they wanted – fun, and so did the organisers – returns
