The High Court has today started the hearing of the bail application involving Molly Katanga who is said to have been involved in the killing of her husband Henry Katanga 55-year-old businessman.
Official reports say that Henry Katanga was shot and killed on November 2nd, 2023, after a fight with his wife, Molly Katanga.
Molly was taken to the International Hospital Kampala after the fight, where she was treated for serious injuries. Medical experts said she had broken bones in her hands and a finger had to be cut off.
On January 24th, Molly went to court in a wheelchair and was sent to Luzira Prison.
Later, she asked for bail. She said she wanted to prove she was innocent and needed more medical care for her injuries from the fight.
Molly also said she had people who could make sure she came to court if she was allowed out on bail.
“I need to be out on bail to get medical help, be with my family, work, prepare for my case, and have a fair trial,” Molly said.
She also promised to follow the rules if she was given bail.
Molly’s bail hearing comes after her daughters Martha and Patricia were accused of hiding evidence and got bail. Also, George and Charles, who were involved in the case, got bail after 70 days in jail.
The prosecution says Molly killed her husband on November 2, 2023, in Kampala.
But Molly’s lawyers say she’s a victim of domestic violence and the prosecution is rushing the case without a fair investigation.
Now, everyone is waiting for the court’s decision on Molly’s bail. It’s a big part of a legal story about power, privilege, and justice.
