General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), emphasized the importance of leaving a positive and enduring mark during a handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Defence and Veterans Affairs (MODVA) headquarters in Mbuya.
Addressing service commanders, chiefs, and senior officers, General Muhoozi urged them to strive for excellence and contribute to the peaceful culture of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
The ceremony witnessed the outgoing Deputy CDF, Lt Gen Peter Elwelu, and Chief of Joint Staff (CJS), Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda, handing over their respective offices to their successors, Lt Gen Sam Okiding and Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba.
General Muhoozi reminded troops that holding these positions is a temporary assignment aimed at enhancing operational efficiency within the force.
Expressing gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for selecting the right candidates for the roles, General Muhoozi urged the new office bearers to make significant contributions in their new positions.
In his acceptance speech, Lt Gen Sam Okiding acknowledged the outgoing Deputy CDF for his service and pledged to work collaboratively with others to achieve the force’s objectives.
Maj Gen Jack Bakasumba, the incoming CJS, reaffirmed his commitment to upholding discipline and combatting corruption within the force.
The ceremony, attended by MODVA officials and senior military personnel, underscored the dedication of the UPDF leadership to maintaining a strong and effective defense force.
