The Buikwe Resident District Commissioner, Hawa Namugenyi Ndege who recently clashed with Minister, Diana Mutasingwa has been sacked.
On July, 1 the secretary to the office of the president, Minister for Presidency, Milly Babalanda directed Namugenyi to the handover office with immediate effect.
“The RDC Buikwe, Ms Hawa Namugenyi Ndege should be recalled to the headquarters pending redeployment. As an interim measure, the deputy RDC of Buikwe should take charge of the RDC office,” Babalanda said.
In an incident last month, Namugenyi clashed with Minister Mutasingwa over a suspected illegal eviction in Naava Cell, Njeru Municipality of Buikwe District.
The RDC had superintended over the demolition of a house belonging to one Simon Alideki by self-claimed bailiffs being guarded by the army and police.
The minister intervened and stopped the eviction which led to a standoff as Mutasingwa accused the RDC of violating presidential directives against evictions.
The minister said that although she had called the RDC over the matter, she refused to pick up her calls.
However, Minister Mutasingwa intervened and stopped the eviction.
The RDC however insisted that the eviction was legal and described the minister as a busybody.
The angry minister would later order the arrest of the RDC, with threats to report the matter to President Museveni.
In Monday’s letter to the Permanent Secretary in the office of the President, Yunus Kakande, Minister Milly Babalanda said the incident tarnished the ministry’s name and image.
“The hot exchange caused much public debate where the office of the President was deeply discredited,” Babalanda said in the letter.
She also asked the Permanent Secretary to make a detailed report on the matter, adding that President Museveni will “be consulted for final decision on the matter following completion of the detailed report.”
