The National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi, has urged Bushenyi residents to vote out corrupt leaders if the party is to build a new Uganda.
While speaking to his supporters of Ishaka municipality on July 16, 2024, at Kizinda grounds, KyagulanyiBushenyi residents said that the people of Bushenyi know the thieves and should vote them out in the coming elections.
“My colleagues feared to mention the names, but since they were arrested, I will mention that you have Michael Mawanda, who was arrested for corruption, and Gen Muhoozi will come here supporting him to be reelected; please vote him out,” he said.
Kyagulanyi further told the people of Ishaka to stand up for themselves and defend their rights, or else no one will.
“You have matooke, milk, and tea, which are all attracting low prices, and there is nothing you can do; you choose your own leaders, and you need leaders who can fight for you,” Kyagulanyi added.
Kyagulanyi’s remarks about corruption could have targeted the recent arrest of Mawanda, the MP for Igara East in Bushenyi district, on charges of corruption and loss compensation fund in cooperative societies where he is accused of illegally benefiting.
Mawanda’s arrest came a few weeks after the arrest of three other Members of Parliament for having solicited a bribe from the Uganda Human Rights Commission to influence the commission’s budget before parliament.
Kyagulanyi, who is on a five-day visit to western Uganda, today July 17, 2024 be in Rukungiri and proceed to Bushenyi and Isingiro on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
