Miss Tourism Uganda a few years ago announced and launched a campaign known as the Let the Pearl Shine campaign.
The campaign has been taking place annually and it is aimed at cleaning the different cities in the country and also urging Ugandans not to litter.
The Campaign which is a national sanitization campaign this year also doubled as an initiative to promote domestic tourism. According to Mr Ivan Lugya, the Miss Tourism project coordinator, the campaign has this year also decided to remind Ugandans that we need to visit our own tourism destinations.
Lugya went on to say that during the long day activities of cleaning different places in Kampala on Saturday, they also reminded Ugandans to visit places like the Uganda Museum, Zoo and other Tourism destinations in Uganda.
During the campaign, the Miss Tourism team set off from the Independence Monument in Kampala and drove through the different highly populated areas of the city such as the bus terminals that house link buses, Global couches and Namayumba bus terminal. Other areas that were cleaned included Owino market, Kisseka, Kisenyi and the taxi parks.
Since its initiation, the campaign has been in different regions like Buganda, Tooro, Kigezi, Bunyoro, Teso, Rwenzori, Northern Uganda and Ankole among others.
