The search for this year’s Miss Tourism Uganda started off months ago in different regions. Over the weekend, Miss Tourism Uganda was in the Western region through a pageantry event that saw three queens crowned to represent the region at the National level in September this year.
The Miss Tourism search events have happened in seven regions, and over the weekend, they were in the Bushenyi district, held at the Western Meridian Hotel.
A lot of university students have graced this year’s search. The winners will represent their respective regions at the Miss Tourism grand finale on September 14th, 2024, at Kampala Serena Hotel.
The pageantry saw Birungi Shanne, 19 years of age, crowned as the queen, with her first runner-up being Abigail Abaho and the second runner-up being Banny Shadia.
The new Queen and her assistants will represent their region at the National Miss Tourism contest on September 14th this year at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Conservationists and environmentalists who attended the event presented a proposal about the need to drive a campaign to protect the decreasing glaciers in Western Uganda.
Uganda has been severely ravaged by climate change, and there is concern that in a few decades if nothing is done, the glaciers will disappear. The new Queen and her team will, therefore, take it upon themselves to rally the community towards finding solutions to this scourge. This year’s theme is “Tourism and Peace.”
Miss Tourism Uganda is already active in eight different regions and will be heading to Rwenzori this week on the 26th of July.
