Dancehall sensation Crescent Baguma, popularly known as Beenie Gunter, is making major strides in his music career. After hints of international collaborations emerged last year, it was clear that Gunter was shifting his focus toward a more global sound.
In celebration of his 32nd birthday on February 24, Gunter took a bold step by officially signing with Zhafar Music Agency, a record label known for its diverse approach to music and its commitment to both local and international audiences.
Speaking after the signing, Gunter shared his excitement about the new partnership, saying, “I’ve always believed that collaborating across genres and tapping into diverse sounds is the key to breaking international barriers for Ugandan music. I’m confident that the projects we’re working on will connect with fans both here in Uganda and across the world.”
Haruna Zhafar, the CEO of Zhafar Music Agency, also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, commenting, “Music is the heartbeat of culture. At Zhafar, we are dedicated to pushing the industry forward by fostering creativity and collaboration. We’re excited to welcome Beenie Gunter to our label and look forward to making groundbreaking music together.”
The label will oversee all aspects of Gunter’s career, including studio recordings, music videos, media tours, photoshoots, performances, and endorsements, both locally and internationally.
The signing ceremony also doubled as a birthday celebration, with Gunter receiving three cameras, a smartphone, and 10 million shillings to kickstart his journey as a freshly signed artist.
This milestone comes at a time when professional music labels in Uganda are still rare, and many artists face challenges in managing their careers. However, Gunter, who has been part of a label before, is optimistic. He sees this new partnership as a chance for growth and further development in his career.
Gunter’s catchphrase, “Guntalk city to the world,” is set to become a reality as he embarks on this exciting new chapter in his music journey.
