Twelve remandees and seven suspects were nearly gained freedom after a swarm of bees invaded the Abim Magistrates Court in the Karamoja Sub Region on January 14, 2025.
The sudden bee attack sent everyone into a frenzy, as people scrambled to escape the painful stings from the seemingly vengeful insects.
Witnesses reported that the swarm entered the courtroom while proceedings were underway, in the open structure.
This unexpected intrusion caused a mass exodus, interrupting Grade One Magistrate Emmanuel Pririmba as he was in the midst of outlining procedural guidelines.
In the chaos, the magistrate, along with some staff and litigants, sought refuge in their offices, while prison and police officers, attendees, suspects, and remandees scattered in directions to evade the onslaught from the insects.
According to Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the bees targeted court personnel, prison officers, police, litigants, remandees, and suspects, compelling everyone to flee for their safety.
The suspects and remandees tried to exploit the situation to escape, but the authorities quickly apprehended them again.
