Ugandan football is predominantly lagging behind compared to other African countries. Though in East Africa Uganda has some kind of good football. There are many propagandas behind the failure of Ugandan sports. As Ugandans obviously some hope is seen as Ugandan football is likely to prosper.
Brief history on Ugandan football. The Uganda national football team represents Uganda in association of football under the federation of Ugandan football. It is believed that the first Uganda match was in 1926 against kenya and the match ended in a 1:1 draw. In that same year Uganda had to qualify for African cup of nations. In that tournament Uganda was eliminated by United Arab Republic ( 2:1). In return to Africa cup of nations in 1974, Uganda was eliminated in the first round following the defeats of Egypt and Zambia then the draw of Ivory coast.
Uganda later qualified for Africa cup of nations in 2017 after finishing 39 years without qualifying. In that year it was eliminated in group stages following loses to Ghana, Egypt and a draw to Mali. In 2018 world cup qualifiers Ugandans had alot of hope as that year Uganda only needed to win Egypt and proceed to world cup but it was all in vain because Uganda actually lost to Egypt.
Uganda football club is under association of FUFA then under Confederation of CAF, sub confederation of CECAFA, head coach is Paul Put. The all time topscorer is Emmanuel okwi with 28 goals while Godfrey walisimbi has most caps 105. Mandela national stadium is the Ugandan main stadium.
Uganda is ranked 92 in FIFA rankings across the world. The highest rank in FIFA was 62 in 2016 while the worst position was 152 in 2002 July. Biggest win was 13-1 against kenya in 1932. Biggest defeat was 6 nil against both Egypt and Tunisia in 1995 and 1999 respectively.
