Dr Shamim Nabuuma, a Ugandan medical doctor has invented an Artificial Intelligence tool that interprets medical language including laboratory tests, prescription notes, discharge forms and jargons into simple terms.
The new tool will translate the jargon into Swahili, English, Arabic and Luganda among other languages and according to Nabuuma, a user just asks a health related question and it translates it.
The tool named KETI AI is available on WhatsApp and the web.
“This revolutionary tool allows users to write any text or upload medical documents, and KETI will provide clear, easy-to-understand explanations in their native language,” Dr.Nabuuma said.
She said that patients only require to go to the chatbot which has the capacity to interpret handwritten doctor notes or prescriptions.
“With KETI, you simply upload the document your doctor gave you, and the bot will provide you with a detailed explanation, helping you remember what was said. Only 22% of patients in developing countries understand medical terminology, making healthcare navigation difficult but this new AI tool will solve this.”
She said for now the new innovation is free of charge.
