Buganda is the most populous region in Uganda, the latest figures from the 2024 population and housing census conducted by UBOS have indicated.
The preliminary results released on Thursday indicate that  Buganda has 11.1 million people, followed by Busoga with 4.4 million people, while the West Nile with 3.9 million people comes third.
The results show that Ankole(3.6 million), Tooro(3.4 million) and Bunyoro at 2.8 million follow respectively.
Cities
The results show that Uganda’s 11 cities have a total population of 5.5 million, 1.2 million of these working in the cities and the remaining number being residents.
The figures also show that Kampala has the biggest population among cities, with 627000 people working in the country’s capital and 1.9 million residents.
Mbarara with 324974, Gulu with 323888 and Masaka with 328485 follow in being populous.
