Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, the incumbent Kira Municipality Member of Parliament representing the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), revealed his intention to part ways with the party in May 2025, citing perpetual internal strife as his primary reason.
Ssemujju attributed the ongoing discord within FDC to the dominance of Nathan Nandala Mafabi, the party’s Secretary General, and Engineer Patrick Oboi Amuriat, its president.
During a televised interview on April 17, 2024, focusing on Dr. Kizza Besigye’s reemergence in active politics, Ssemujju asserted his stance, stating, “I cannot continue to be associated with an organization that is constantly embroiled in internal conflicts.”
Commenting on Besigye’s purported return, Ssemujju remarked that there was no actual departure, as Besigye remained active through platforms like the Red Card Front.
Furthermore, Ssemujju highlighted the necessity of challenging President Museveni, alleging violations of the law, and emphasized the revealing nature of power, stating, “Power does not transform; it exposes one’s true character.”
In response, Emmanuel Dombo, the National Resistance Movement’s communications officer, expressed sympathy towards FDC, attributing their internal struggles to their inability to grasp the dynamics of political organization management.
Dombo criticized FDC’s leadership for failing to learn effective leadership from their shared history with President Museveni, insinuating their incompetence in running both a political party and a nation.
This development coincides with Besigye’s declaration of intent to rejoin the political fray with the aim of unseating President Museveni before the 2026 general elections.
