Charles Peter Mayiga the Katikkiro of Buganda has shown his support towards the new Youth State Miniter Balaam Barugahara for his efforts to President Museveni to release the jailed opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters who were arrested during the 2021 general election campaigns.
During his swearing-in ceremony at State House Entebbe, Balaam begged President Museveni to release the NUP supporters who have been jailed for some good years over political reasons.
Buganda Katikkiro Mayiga showed his warm support for Balaam’s cause and said that his willingness to engage with the NUP to see that their supporters are realized.
Mayiga said this after meeting with members of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) at Bulange Mengo where they had to meet with Mayiga to buy kits for the Kabaka Birthday Run which is happening on Sunday 7th April 2024 under the theme “Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child”.
The PLU members spearheaded by the State minister for National Guidance, Godfrey Kabbyanga, bought kits worth Shs20 million.
Minister Kabbyanga showed his gratitude to Buganda for its inclusive hospitality, irrespective of race or political affiliation.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Kabaka and the entire kingdom for their inclusive policy, embracing individuals regardless of their religion or political affiliations,” expressed Kabbyanga.
The team comprised over 10 Members of Parliament from various regions, alongside Balaam and Lilian Aber, the Minister of State for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugee Affairs.
Additionally, the Katikkiro welcomed Bishop Wilson Kisekka of Luwero Diocese, who led a delegation from Bulemeezi. During the meeting, Katikkiro Mayiga urged local leaders to unite in combating the prevalent issue of defilement in the area.
Furthermore, they procured kits worth three million Uganda shillings to support the Kabaka Birthday Run. Schools and institutions are increasingly visiting Bulange to acquire kits for participation in the run, with proceeds directed towards HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
This year’s Kabaka birthday run is witnessing an unprecedented surge in popularity.
