Soroti Leader Jonathan Ebwalu speaks out on the limited funds allocated by the Ministry Of Finance in the upcoming Financial Year  2024/2025 for compensation of the people of Teso who were affected by the Karimojong raids.
In Soroti, Ebwalu has underscored the critical importance of honouring the High Court ruling, which mandates full compensation for those who endured losses during the turbulent period.
More than 3,000 war claimants, spearheaded by former Kapelebyong MP Julius Ochan and Kasilo County MP Elijah Okupa, pursued legal recourse against the government for the loss of property, livestock, and lives in Teso between 1986 and 1994, as well as during the 200 LRA incursion.
Despite the court’s verdict favouring compensation, Ebwalu expressed dismay over the government’s inaction, accusing it of discriminatory practices in the compensation process.
He pointed out the absence of allocated financial resources for this purpose in the upcoming fiscal year, exacerbating the frustration among the affected individuals.
The matter has reignited discussions and intensified pressure on the government to fulfil its responsibilities and provide redress to the victims of the Karamoja insurgency in the Teso region.
