President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni donates UGX 200 million for the construction of Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters and the Health Center IV for people in the region.

“I’m part of the government and have some resources, so I’ll start by giving 200 million Shillings. If it’s not enough when everyone else pitches in, just tell me, and I’ll add more,” stated President Museveni.

He made this pledge on March 21, 2024, during a fundraising event for building the Lwengo Muslim District Headquarters and Health Center IV in Mbirizi, Lwengo Town Council.

President Museveni noted that it would have been more effective if all households in Lwengo had stable incomes, allowing them to contribute larger amounts towards the project, making its construction faster and easier.

The president also added saying “I’m happy that the Muslim community is trying to build a health center and headquarters for their own administrative Center and that is why we are here to support them.”

“Fundraising means everyone pitches in. But if only a few wealthy folks contribute, that’s not true fundraising. Back in the 1950s, my father and his neighbours in Ntungamo each chipped in equally to buy local beer, which cost just 5 Shillings. So, while we can contribute what we can, it’d be better if all households had stable incomes to make bigger contributions.”

President Museveni also allowed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineers Brigade to handle the project’s construction, valued at 1 billion Shillings. This decision came after a request from Lwengo District Woman Member of Parliament, Hon. Cissy Namujju.

President Museveni was pleased to see many people in Lwengo embracing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) wealth creation message. He stressed that the NRM has long offered solutions to Uganda’s problems, even though not everyone listened initially. He commended efforts like Col. Nsamba’s distribution of coffee, emphasizing the importance of everyone participating in the money economy for socio-economic transformation.

He urged all families to engage in income-generating activities, emphasizing the Parish Development Model’s role in promoting food security and wealth creation. He shared examples from regions like the cattle corridor where dairy farming has brought prosperity. He emphasized the need for NRM leaders to ensure every family has a cash-generating activity.

President Museveni highlighted that the Parish Development Model was designed to transition the 39 per cent of Ugandans relying solely on subsistence agriculture into the money economy, thus improving their livelihoods.
