After spending six days in a prison in Abu Dhabi, Ugandan dancehall singer Crescent Baguma, popularly known as Beenie Gunter, was released on bail on Friday. However, despite the release, he remains unable to return to Uganda due to a travel ban imposed following his arrest.
Beenie Gunter’s troubles began on January 21, 2023, when he was arrested at a Dubai airport while attempting to board a flight back to Uganda with his baby mama, Nickie Berry. The Tubayo singer was subsequently transferred to Abu Dhabi and detained over allegations of violent conduct and property vandalism.
The arrest stemmed from an altercation between two Ugandan promoters in the UAE during Beenie Gunter’s performance in Abu Dhabi a few weeks prior. While attempting to intervene and diffuse the situation, Beenie Gunter found himself in the midst of the scuffle, resulting in his rough handling and subsequent arrest, as reported by law enforcement in Abu Dhabi.
A source revealed that Beenie Gunter’s legal representatives will present his case before a judge on February 18, 2024. Currently, his team is seeking to submit a letter requesting a pardon, aiming to secure permission for him to return to his family in Uganda.
The artist’s arrest has sparked solidarity among Ugandan celebrities, who have joined forces in calling for his release. The Guntalk Empire CEO’s supporters hope for a favorable resolution to the legal proceedings, allowing Beenie Gunter to return home safely.
