INSINGIRO DISTRICT: Police are carrying out investigations under which an 80-year-old woman was murdered.
Joy Kitarinyenda Joy, a resident of Kasaana I cell, Birere sub-county of Isingiro district was found dead in her house with the doors locked from out.
Joy Kitarinyenda Joy was last seen on Saturday 30th March 2024 with Bamwine Richard, 42 who is said to be a friend around her home that’s according to the residents.
However, when the body was discovered in the house, Bamwine was nowhere to be found. Upon questioning, he claimed to have left her well as he departed for the Easter holidays.
Samson Kasasira, the police spokesperson for the Rwizi Region, confirmed that the deceased’s body was found with scratch marks on the neck and other areas, indicating that she had been strangled.
He stated that the motive behind the act has not yet been determined, mentioning that two suspects have been arrested thus far to aid in the investigation.
Kasasira identified the suspects as Epharse Nuwabeine, the daughter of the deceased, and Richard Bamwine, her male companion.
The body was transported to the Mbarara Regional Hospital mortuary for postmortem examination.
