The death toll from a road crash in Kyenjojo District has reached 14. The crash happened on Wednesday at Ngezi Trading Centre, killing ten people on the spot and leaving 22 injured.
The crash happened when a taxi registration number UBR 800S, travelling from Fort Portal to Kampala, collided with another taxi, registration UBK 017N, heading in the opposite direction. Police attributed the cause of the crash to reckless driving by the driver of taxi UBK 017K.
According to Rwenzori region police spokesperson, VicentTwesige, four more people died on Thursday at Fort Portal Regional Referral Hospital.
Police have identified some of the deceased as, Daphine Kembabaz, a resident of Kyejojo, Suzan Kamukama, Steven Musiromu, Pascal Kasaija and Monica Kabarwani
He said that the Police are yet to establish the identities of the other victims.
This is the second time a road crash has happened at the same spot. In August, ten people died following a collision between a bus and a taxi.
The Pokopoko Bus, which was travelling from Kampala, collided with the taxi that was on its way from Fort Portal to Kampala.
Investigations by the police suggested that the taxi driver lost control and veered into the bus’s lane, resulting in a head-on collision.
