10 people are reported to have died and about 25 are nursing serious injuries in a road accident that happened today at Kiganda along Kyalulangira-Isingiro road on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Micheal Kananura, the traffic police directorate spokesperson the accident was for a Canter Lorry registration number UAP 559X.
“The territorial traffic police in Rakai, on the 26-03-2024 at around 01:30 pm, recorded a single at Kiganda along Kyalulangira-Isingiro Road,” he said.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, currently evading capture, lost control of the vehicle while heading towards Isingiro. The vehicle overturned, tragically claiming the lives of ten passengers instantly.
Kananura reports that the bodies of the deceased have been moved to Kyalulangira H/C III for post-mortem examination. Additionally, some injured victims have been transferred to Rakia Hospital for treatment.
He emphasizes the importance of caution for motorists and all road users, particularly with the upcoming Easter festivities approaching rapidly.
